7th CCS 2000 Message from the Program Chair These proceedings contain the papers selected for presentation at the 7th ACM Conference on Computer and Communication Security, held November 2-4, 2000, in Athens, Greece. In response to the call for papers, 132 papers were submitted to the conference. These papers were evaluated on the basis of their significance, novelty, and technical quality. As in previous years, reviewing was "double-blind": the identities,of reviewers were not revealed to the authors of the papers and author identities were not revealed to the reviewers. The program committee met on June 23rd at the George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Of the papers submitted, 28 were selected for presentation at the conference. Last year, tutorials were introduced to this conference. The scope of this year's conference has been further expanded to include two workshops - Workshop on Security and Privacy in E-Commerce and Workshop on Intrusion Detection and Prevention - to provide forums for focused discussion on topics of timely interest. I expect that the specialized workshops will become a regular feature of future conferences. A conference like this just does not happen; it depends on the volunteer efforts of a host of individuals. Thanks are due to the following volunteers for their help with various aspects of the conference and these proceedings: - The authors of the papers who submitted to the conference - The members of the program committee for all their hard work - The external reviewers - Soon Chun for her help with the Web site for paper submissions - Heiki Mannila and Ravi Ganesan for invited talks - Yvo Desmedt for organizing the panel - Anup Ghosh and Deborah Frincke for serving as the program chairs of the workshops - Stuart Stubblebine for serving as the tutorials chair, and John Ioannidis, Angelos Keromytis, and Yair Frankel for giving the tutorials - Vijay Atluri for taking care of the publicity - Sabrina De Capitani di Vimereati for her help with managing the reviews - Pierangela Samarati for assisting with preparation of these proceedings Last but certainly not least, my thanks go to Dirnitris Gritzalis for providing support as the general chair of the conference. The number of submissions this year far exceeds those in the previous years (60 in 1997, 87 in 1998, and 85 in 1999). This reflects the increasing vitality and importance of our field in the new millennium. I hope you will find the program stimulating and a source of inspiration for your future research.
